Consent Process for Youth

Clients under age 18 require the consent of a parent or guardian prior to engaging in counselling. If custody is shared, written consent from both parents is required.

Confidentiality

 

Information shared during counselling will be treated as confidential and is only disclosed with the client’s written consent. However, there are limits to confidentiality and an obligation to report in the following circumstances:

  • If I believe you intend to seriously harm yourself or others;

  • If you disclose abuse of a child or vulnerable adult;

  • If I receive a subpoena or court order to access your files.

 

During your first counselling session, confidentiality will be reviewed in detail and you will have an opportunity to ask questions prior to consenting.

Session Length & Number of Sessions

Each session is 50-minutes in length.  This allows for time within the hour to complete tasks such as appointment scheduling and billing.  The number of sessions required is unique to each client depending upon factors such as the nature of the concerns and motivation for change.  I will work with you to determine a structure that best meets your needs.

Initial Consultation

During the first session, an intake is completed, which involves me learning more about your background and reasons for seeking counselling.  We will discuss the process of therapy, confidentiality and consent; as well as complete related paperwork.

Fees & Payment

My standard fee is $175 for a 50-minute session (in-person, phone or video). A sliding fee scale is potentially available for those facing financial barriers; please contact me to discuss further.

Insurance Coverage & Billing

I offer direct billing to some insurance companies; however, policies differ and coverage cannot be guaranteed. If direct billing is unavailable, you will be provided with a receipt for services, which may be submitted for possible reimbursement. It is the responsibility of the client to review coverage and determine eligibility.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are required a minimum of 48-hours in advance. If a session is missed, or cancelled with less than 48-hours notice, the full session fee of $175 will be charged and due prior to rescheduling another appointment.
